Multipurpose Senior Center Grant Program

Program Overview/Purpose
This program is designed to help improve the quality of existing Multipurpose Senior Centers (MSC), to construct or rehabilitate MSCs, and to provide necessary equipment to enhance the supportive services. MSCs are community or neighborhood facilities that provide of a broad spectrum of services including health, social, and nutritional group activities for senior citizens over the age of 60 years.

Types of Programs Funded/Assistance Provided
Multipurpose Senior Center grants may be used for one or more of the following activities:

  • Major rehabilitation or conversion of buildings for use as Multipurpose Senior Centers 
  • Purchase of equipment necessary to provide supportive services  
  • Acquisition or construction of a Multipurpose Senior Center

Eligibility
Eligible applicants are units of general local government and private non-profit organizations with the purpose of serving the citizens over the age of 60. Eligible project activities include rehabilitation, new construction, and purchasing of necessary equipment.  MSC grant funding may NOT be used for the costs of operation (administration, rent, fuels, insurance, and utilities) of the senior center. The competitive proposal process utilizes an established set of rating criteria to rank all applicants. Each grant request is limited to $5,000 per application.
